Jeff's Journey

Jeff Chan Progress.jpg

Jeff came in from a referral from his cousin. After a few years of training solo and following high intensity programs, no carb diets and inconsistency in general, Jeff was looking for a more sustainable approach to training and nutrition.

Although he had previously made good progress in his fat loss goals using these techniques, he had never built any foundational muscle mass and had always rebounded back from his diets, often actually rebounding into a worse situation at a higher level of body fat. He lived with too much restraint and restrictions which led him to have an all or nothing approach which left him disappointed with the lack of results.

At first, we had to identify what was realistic, taking into consideration his job, his current commitments and things he could not cut out from his life due to work and relationships. This included things such as client dinners and drinks he had to attend several nights per week. Once these situations were identified, we would set specific guidelines for them, such as, only drinking vodka sodas, sticking to high protein no carb meals when out and potentially fasting for one of the meals so that the meals could fit into his caloric intake.

Once we put basic guidelines in place for specific situations, he followed a simple food plan to ensure he met his basic calorie and protein requirements according to his fat loss goals. This plan gave him a basic structure that he could adhere to, but allowed him the flexibility to deviate if it was absolutely necessary.

With regards to training, he came in 3-4 times per week and focused mainly on strength training, utilising heavy weights and focusing on consistently progressing with perfect form and ensuring progress in total weekly volume (the amount of weight you lift per week). Throughout training, we adjusted the plans when needed, with Jeff going through the initial "adaptation" phase where we focused more on technique and mobility before moving onto larger and heavier compound movements such as deadlifts and squats.

As you can see, the results speak for themselves, not only did Jeff transform his physique, he transformed his mindset with the information he had learnt throughout this journey.

What are your goals and how are you working towards them in a sustainable approach for your life?
